Fernando Roig to appeal after being sentenced to prison for tax fraud. Villarreal have released a statement confirming they will appeal after a court sentenced 76-year-old club president Fernando Roig to prison on forgery charges. Diario Sport reported on Thursday. 

Villarreal’s president has been charged with falsifying commercial documents submitted to Spain’s finance ministry. With a lower court sentencing Fernando Roig to 11 months and 28 days in prison. With two unnamed Villarreal CEOs also reportedly sentenced UFABET 

The charges relate to the renovation of Villarreal’s Sport City and the Estádio de la Ceramica. Known as El Madrigal, from 2004 before being proven guilty of defrauding the Treasury of €187,840 – €525,440 in 2004 and €336,600 in 2005.

‘Villarreal CF announces that it will appeal the court’s decision. The club remains convinced of the innocence of the advisory group. And will therefore use all legal means to defend its innocence before higher authorities.’ the club said in a statement.

Villarreal will have to appeal to the Castellón provincial court to continue fighting for their rights.

The decision be appealed before the Provincial Court of Castellon, and Villarreal have already announced that they intend to do exactly this. The club is “convinced of its advisers’ innocence”. And they will “use all legal avenues at its disposal to defend its innocence before the higher authorities”.
